Situated along the Florida Turnpike southwest of Miami FL real estate, Kendall is an unincorporated suburban community in Miami-Dade County. It is home to approximately 75,000 residents, with a large percentage of Colombian immigrants.
When referring to Kendall Florida real estate, residents often include several neighborhoods located on the western edge of Kendall. They include census-designated areas of The Hammocks with 50,000 residents, Kendall Lakes (56,000), Kendall West (40,000), Country Walk (10,000), Three Lakes (7,000) and The Crossings (25,000). Neighborhoods of homes in West Kendall, The Hammocks and Royal Palms on 134th Avenue share deep Colombian friendships and traditions.
Residents of these southwestern Miami FL homes enjoy proximity to the abundant attractions of the area beginning right inside Kendall. Known around the world as the home of the innovative Metrozoo, Kendall welcomes a regular influx of tourists. Metrozoo features 300 acres of jungles, forest, and trails, habitat designed within a moat that allow the animals to roam freely. The facilities, remarkable aviary, and rare White Bengal tigers are impressive.
Of course, the white-sand beaches and rolling waves stand out as the top attractions in the metro areas. A sampling of the variety of other interesting destinations includes:
- Art museums such as Lowe Art Museum in Coral Gables and Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach
- Historical museums such as the Barnacle State Historic Park built in 1891 in Coconut Grove, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and the World and U.S. Chess Hall of Fame, the official museum of the World Chess Federation and the U.S. Chess Federation
- Wildlife havens such as Miami Seaquarium with its annual extravaganza events, Parrot Jungle Island, Everglades Alligator Farm in Homestead with 3,000 gators
- Nature pathways at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables and Biscayne National Park in Homestead
- Unique features such as the Coral Castle in Homestead, a fantasy world carved out of stone
- Professional sports venues such as Florida Marlins Baseball (MLB), Miami Dolphins Football ((NFL), Miami Heat Basketball (NBA), and Florida Panthers Hockey (NHL)
The community is not new. The Florida Land and Mortgage Company purchased the property in 1883 from the State of Florida. Henry John Broughton Kendall moved to the area in the 1900s to manage the land. The community developed slowly. A post office opened in 1914 followed by a school in 1929. Two Seminole camps in the area thrived well into the 1940s.
