Loggerheads nest on ocean beaches, preferring rugged terrain.  This area of Southeast Florida is one of the most important nesting grounds in the world for loggerheads.  Nesting season for sea turtles spans from May to September.  The female loggerhead, after about age 35, crawls ashore at night and digs shallow pit, depositing about 100 eggs every two weeks.  Immediately after hatchlings emerge from that nest, they began a period of frenzied activity in which they move from the nest on land out into the surf.
