The quiet breathtaking beauty of real estate in Coconut Grove Florida has lured tourists and artists to its southern Miami homes, beaches and boating for almost two centuries.  About 20,000 of Miami's residents now live in real estate in Coconut Grove, divided between what is referred to as North-East Grove and South-West Grove.  The community boasts The Kampong, an 8-acre tropical garden that forms part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden.

The secret place of Coconut Grove real estate has been a source of inspiration to the likes of Jose Feliciano, Tennessee Williams, Joni Mitchell, Alexander Graham Bell, Fred Neil, David Crosby, Robert Frost, Jimmy Buffet, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas.  Coconut Grove is still a place to listen to music, walk the beaches, and enjoy the small-town camaraderie.  Community events include the King Mango Strut and the Goombay Festival Caribbean Carnival.

Although Coconut Grove is now a beach neighborhood of Miami FL real estate, it originally incorporated as its own city.  In 1825 after the opening of the Cape Florida lighthouse, immigrants disembarked on the lovely beaches.  Beginning with British vacationers or U.S. northeasterners, the first blacks settled from the Bahamas.  Isabella and Charles Peacock from England opened the first hotel in South Florida in 1882.  Their Bay View Inn (later called the Peacock Inn) was followed by a library and school which became the envy of the Miami area.

Originally called Cocoanut Grove, the lush landscape and shimmering waters of the Biscayne Bay have attracted writers, artists, and musicians as well as people with businesses.  Its huge financial success was coveted by the bigger city which sought tax revenues.  Coconut Grove was annexed in 1925 in an off-guard moment.  The Miami City Hall is now based in the local building that once housed Pan Am's seaplane operations.

Biscayne Bay is a boating community featuring the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, the Coral Reef Yacht Club, and Dinner Key Marina.  Along the shore of Biscayne Bay, the Barnacle Historic State Park features one of the oldest homes in Dade County.  It has been kept intact with period furniture.  A hardwood hammock forest surrounds the home, the last of its kind in the area.  Wide porches offer magnificent views of the area.

The Grove is a great place to browse and linger.  It is known as Miami's Food Court because of the numerous eating establishments and open-air cafes:  Green Street CafĂ©, Monty's Raw Bar, Tuscany, Mr. Moes, Le Bouchon along with franchise restaurants.  Interesting shopping options include two large open malls, street shops, and boutiques.  The Coconut Grove Playhouse is very popular for plays and musicals.  The Grove is frequented during the evenings by young professionals and students from the University of Miami and Florida International University.
